JD/MBA
Combined
Degree Program
The
JD/MBA combined degree program offers the opportunity to earn the
Master of Business Administration degree and the Juris Doctor degree
in a full-time program. The program can be completed in three-and
one-half to four-years.
The
dual degree from Santa Clara University's nationally ranked Leavey
School of Business and School of Law prepares individuals to approach
challenges from two perspectives: a businessperson and a lawyer.
Business professionals holding the JD/MBA have access to a broad
perspective of legal aspects of business, including intellectual
property, international law and contracts.
The
Santa Clara Evening MBA program is designed to develop leaders with
a broad business, economic and social perspective capable of managing
change in dynamic environments. The JD/MBA combined degree can further
develop business acumen with the addition of a solid legal foundation,
enabling graduates to make significant contributions to their fields
and business organizations. JD/MBA degree holders also enjoy a wide
variety of career options.
Application
Process
Candidates
for the combined program must first apply to and be accepted to
the School of Law.
During the first year of law school, the applicant applies to the
Evening MBA program at the Leavey School of Business. If the applicant
has not taken the GMAT (Graduate
Management Admissions Test), he or she would do so during the first
year of law school. First-year SCU law students interested in
applying for Fall should take the GMAT by May 15 and submit
the MBA application by the June 1 deadline. Applicants for Winter
should take the GMAT by August 15 and submit the MBA application
by September 1. Students must have 45 units or less by the end of
the first semester of their second year to be eligible to apply
for the winter term.
First-year
law students applying to the program are admitted on the basis of
academic ability as indicated by college records and GMAT scores,
demonstrated managerial potential (including work experience and
recommendations), and motivation to undertake a demanding academic
program. Applicants need not have an undergraduate business degree
to apply to the program. Admission will only be granted to students
who are in good academic standing in the law school and who are
full-time students.
Course
Curriculum
After
completing the first year of law school, the JD/MBA student typically
takes 9 law units in the Fall semester and 6 MBA units in the Fall
quarter, and a similar schedule for the Winter and Spring. The law
school is on the semester system, while the business school is on
the quarter system. New students admitted to the JD/MBA program
must meet with a program advisor in the Law School for approval
of and to plan a specific, individualized course of study.
Tuition
Tuition
at the Leavey School of Business for the 2004 - 2005 academic year
is $648 per quarter unit; most MBA courses consist of 3 quarter
units, thus tuition per course is $1,944. More information concerning
Law tuition may be found at: http://scu.edu/law
