Profile

Professor Garvey teaches courses in microeconomics, public economics, and poverty and public policy. Her research interests lie at the intersection of labor and public economics, with a particular emphasis in two areas: the economic assimilation of immigrants to the United States and the impact of K-12 education finance schemes on the level and distribution of school spending. She has published articles in a number of edited volumes and monographs, most recently in the "The Immigration Debate: Studies on the Economic, Demographic and Fiscal Effects of Immigration" (National Academy Press). As a result of exogamy, Professor Garvey speaks fluent French.
