Marketing
- Karen
Fox is Associate Professor of Marketing at Santa Clara University,
where she specializes in services marketing and marketing for
nonprofit organizations. An expert on marketing for educational
institutions, she directed Santa Clara's 1,200-student MBA program
from 1980 to 1984, and has presented workshops on marketing for
higher education institutions in the U.S. and overseas. She is
a faculty member for the PBS Adult Learning satellite series on
Excellence in Nonprofit Management.She
is conducting research on the revitalization of the service sector
in Russia, work that began during her 1998 Fulbright lectureship
at the School of Management at St. Petersburg State University.
Before
joining the Santa Clara faculty in 1980, she was on the faculty
of Teachers College of Columbia University and of Northwestern University.
She has taught at SCU for nearly twenty years.
Dr.
Fox's book, Strategic Marketing for Educational Institutions, co-authored
with Philip Kotler, builds on her combined background in education
and marketing. Her scholarly writing is concentrated in the areas
of marketing for educational institutions, services marekting, and
the marketing of social causes. Her work has been widely published
in a number of refereed journals, including the Journal of Marketing,
the Journal of Retail Banking, Studies in Family Planning, and others.
She served on the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Marketing
from 1990 to 1993. She is a member of the board of the Silicon Valley
Chapter of the American Marketing Association, of the AMA's Special
Interest Group on Marketing and Society, and of the MBA-Nonprofit
Connection.
A
graduate of Stanford University, Dr. Fox earned master's degrees
at Harvard Graduate School of Education and the Kellogg Graduate
School of Management at Northwestern University. She earned her
doctorate in curriculum development and evaluation from Stanford's
Graduate School of Education.
