A Message from the Assistant Director

As an international student, you may face some challenges looking for employment opportunities in the United States. For starters, you may have some restrictions on when and where you can work. In addition, you may find that employers aren't really familiar with the visa process and are hesitant to hire international students because of it.

Because of this, Graduate Business (GB) Career Services is designing this website specifically for you and your career needs. This website is a work in progress and items will be added to it throughout the next few weeks. GB Career Services office hopes to provide you with the necessary tools and resources that will assist you in finding internship and full-time job opportunities in the United States.

As graduate business students, you are welcome to use any of the services, resources, and events that our office offers. Please visit Student Resources for a complete list of resources and services and the Events Calendar for a complete list of upcoming events.

There is a lot of information to go through on these links, so let me highlight a few services that I think would be most beneficial to you as an international student.

SERVICES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:

  • International Student Videoconference - Videotaped on September 29, 2004. This videotape is available for you to view in the Media Services offices (located in the Ricard Observatory). It provides international students with important tips on how to find opportunities in the USA, how to increase the likelihood that they will land a position, and how to educate employers on immigration laws and procedures.

  • Internship Distribution List - Bay Area employers interested in recruiting Santa Clara University's students sends GB Career Services internship postings throughout the entire year! If you would like to receive these internship opportunities, please send AnaKarina an email with your student ID# and expected graduation date.

  • Career Assessments - GB Career Services offers an assessment tool that was specifically designed for MBA's. The tool measures interests, values, and skills and, based on your responses, will offer you some possible career matches. Assessment is an essential part of the job search process and curriculum planning, so email AnaKarina if you would like access to this tool.

  • International Links - Visit Internet Career Sites for a list of links that help international students with their job search in the United States.

  • Career Planning Workshops - Plan to attend one of the workshops during the program. This workshop will walk you through the job search process, from assessments to negotiating the offer.

  • Networking Workshops - Attending this workshop is essential to your success in the program and in your career management. Learn the basics of networking and how to work the room.

  • Happy Hour - Plan to attend, at least, one of the GBP Office's happy hours this year. Start mingling and networking with your fellow students and alumni. Check the online calendar for the date of the next happy hour.

  • Interviewing Workshops - This workshop is generally offered in the Winter quarter. It provides students with information and strategies on how to make a good first impression and how to land the job!

  • Career Fairs - The Career Center will be hosting a career fair for all students (undergraduates and graduates) on Wednesday, April 6, 2005. The GB Career Fair will be on April 28, 2005. So, mark your calendar for these events.

  • On-campus Interviewing (OCI) Program - Some employers will also be holding MBA OCI schedules during the week of April 25-29th. Make sure you have signed up with MonsterTrak to receive reminders from me about the deadlines for resume submission and instructions on how to sign up.

  • Career Consultations - Graduate Business Career Services offers hour-long counseling sessions on all aspects of the job search or any issue with career management. Call Nelson Rodrigues at 408-554-5485 to make an appointment with AnaKarina.
